Step 10 – “Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.”

“A continuous look at our assets and liabilities, and a real desire to learn and grow by this means, are necessities for us.  We alcoholics have learned this the hard way.  More experienced people, of course, in all times and places have practiced unsparing self-survey and criticism.  For the wise have always known that no one can make much of his life until self-searching becomes a regular habit, until he is able to admit and accept what he finds, and until he patiently and persistently tries to correct what is wrong.”

What’s Happening Locally

Monthly Intergroup Birthday Meeting – Saturday, October 29th @ 7:00PM

This month’s host group will be Seniors in Sobriety.  This is a well-established meeting that is held on Tuesdays at 10:00 am at Oldemeyer Center.  This is a meeting not for Seniors only, but for everyone who is looking to enhance their sobriety.  Plenty of parking, lots of room, and a great format!  Give this meeting some support – I think you’ll be glad you did..  Speaking for the Seniors will be Diane W.

  • Place:  Monterey High School Cafeteria – 101 Herrmann Dr. Monterey CA 93940
  • Time: Saturday, October 29th at 7:00PM

Please come and support the fellowship!  You’re encouraged you to celebrate in whatever way makes you comfortable – wear a mask, don’t wear a mask, hug, don’t hug.  No judging of others who may or may not do things the way you would like them to.  Kindness, love and celebration will be the order of the day.

The monthly birthday meeting is held on the last Saturday of each month (except for December when the meeting is held along with a holiday banquet ).  The first part of the meeting includes a presentation of birthday medallions for those celebrating annual A.A. anniversaries – all are invited to participate.  Birthdays are followed by an A.A. speaker who shares for 40 to 45 minutes and the meeting ends about 8:30pm.  Coffee is typically ready no later than 6:30pm.  Arrive early for good parking, fellowship, and a great seat!

News From General Service

Monterey General Service panel 71 is coming to an end so it’s time to elect new District Officers and liaisons.  General Service is the link in the chain between AA World Services and our local intergroup.  If your group does not have a General Service Representative, please consider electing a GSR to provide your group with information so there’s an informed group conscience.   The GSR position is a two year commitment – a firm foundation in the Steps and Traditions is very helpful.  As a GSR. you are conveying the information, without giving your opinion, to your group.  Willingness is the key.  Your understanding will grow within these two years.  Elections will be held at our November District meeting (hybrid) and all are welcome.  We meet the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at McGowan House, 381 High Street, Monterey or via a digital platform. Please read the pamphlet and, if interested , let your group know you are ready to be of service.

A Note From Central Office

Here at the office things are going well.  We are looking for a volunteer to answer the phone and fill in once and a while at the office.  If you are interested, give us a call here at Central Office.
I am happy that we will be celebrating gratitude month in November. It is the perfect time to reflect on the gratitude we feel in our hearts for our sobriety.  It is also a time that we can show our gratitude by sending a financial contribution (however large or small) to help support Central Office.  We are still in a time of adjustment and whatever contribution you can make will be used carefully to share the word about Alcoholics Anonymous.

We have some other upcoming events this Fall.  The Fellowship Hall meetings will be hosting alcathon meetings for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years.  They are actively looking for volunteers and there will be more information about that in the coming weeks.  Also, Monterey Bay Area Intergroup of Alcoholics Anonymous will be budgeting for 2023 and we need a few volunteers to offer us a couple of hours to sit on that committee.  Service- work is good for your sobriety!

We will be having an election in January for new Steering Committee Officers.  Please call the office if you are interested.  MBAIAA needs you – it’s very rewarding service work that requires a small amount of time, and you will be giving generously to the fellowship.

Don’t forget about the Birthday Meeting – it is a couple of days before Halloween, so come in costume if you wish!

Be well.  Look after each other, support each other, and remember that we can’t stay sober alone.  Share with others what was so freely given to you.
