“The Seventh Step is where we make the change in our attitude which permits us, with humility as our guide, to move out from ourselves toward others and toward God. The whole emphasis of Step Seven is on humility. It is really saying to us that we now ought to be willing to try humility in seeking the removal of our other shortcomings just as we did when we admitted that we were powerless over alcohol, and came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity. If that degree of humility could enable us to find the grace by which such a deadly obsession could be banished, then there must be hope of the same result respecting any other problem we could possibly have.”

Monterey Intergroup Birthday / Speaker Meeting
Saturday, July 27th, 2019 @ 7:30 pm

Hosted this month by the LGBT Big Book meeting.  The speaker will be Flossie S.

This is a monthly birthday meeting held on the last Saturday of each month (except for December when the meeting is held along with a holiday banquet ). The first part of the meeting includes a presentation of birthday medallions for those celebrating annual A.A. anniversaries and all are invited to participate. Birthdays are followed by an A.A. speaker who shares for 40 to 45 minutes and the meeting ends about 9pm. Coffee is typically ready no later than 7pm. Arrive early for good parking, fellowship and a great seat!

Annual Hawaii Raffle

Our annual Hawaii Raffle is underway. Every year this is one of our biggest fundraisers. We sell 450 tickets at $10.00 each. The prize is a flight for two people for 5 days and 4 nights accommodations and registration to the 58th annual Hawaii Conference. The winner’s name will be drawn at the birthday meeting July 27th. You need not be present to win.

If you can’t find anyone who is selling tickets, give us a call at Central Office (373 3713) and we will be glad to get you all set up!

Another Upcoming Event

The Steering Committee has another event in the early planning stages for October. There may be Bingo involved! Details to follow soon…

A Note From Jana

‘Our Great Reponsibility’ is a new book published by World Services.  It is a selection of Bill W.’s General Service Conference Talks.

We have just received this book here at Central Office. It is a very interesting read.  From humble beginnings, the annual General Service Conference was deemed necessary to, in Bill’s words, “take inventory” of AA as a whole.  Stop by and pick up a copy, or ask your literature person to bring a copy or two to your favorite meeting.

We have also added a very nice archive of Grapevine Magazines that goes back to the 1970’s here at the office.  We will pour you a cup of coffee and you can browse them to your heart’s content. This ‘meeting in print’ is a tremendous resource and I encourage you all to subscribe.

For those of you who are treasurers for your meetings, if your group is interested in accepting digital 7th Tradition contributions, please visit our Technology page to learn more, or let me know.  It is an additional way to make a 7th Tradition contribution for those of us who don’t carry cash.

Much to be grateful for.  Much to do to share our experience, strength and hope.  Enjoy the mid – summer wonder of our beautiful surroundings.

News From General Service

Here is a note from Susan G. – our Area 6 DCMC (District Committee Member Chair).

Do you know the cost of a drink in 1935?  How does 15 cents sound?  In July of 2016, Area 58 in Oregon started a grass roots movement to assist our GSO in N.Y. in covering the cost of expenses for services provided to our groups.  This was not a request from General Service N.Y.  It was a complete surprise when they started receiving checks and online contributions. They were delighted. The amount per person for 2019 is $8.06. Many will contribute on August 6th.  Our General Service Office is updating its technology.  The contribution and literature section will be unavailable from July 22,2019 through August 4,2019.

We Are Always In Need Of People To Be Of Service

If you are interested in being a part of what we do here at Central Office, I am always looking for office volunteers. People to be on the other end of the phone when someone reaches out for help. It is generally a four hour commitment (either 9:30 – 1:30 or 1:30 – 5:30) 1 day per week. Currently, I need a few people to keep on a list of those that are willing to fill in for these positions once in a while. Call or come by and let’s talk!

In closing, please feel free to stop by Central Office. If you are one of the ‘Trusted Servants’ at a meeting (Secretary, Treasurer,etc,) and you have any questions about the responsibilities of that position, don’t hesitate to ask what those responsibilities might be.

I am in the office Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 -5:00.
